About Transmit

A place for a group of friends to talk, share and stream together in good quality, without paying a platform for the privilege.

Why I built this

I got fed up with how much Discord charges for good-quality streams. The quality is tied to boosts, so for everyone in a server to watch a high-quality stream, either everyone has to subscribe or one person has to boost the server again and again. For a small group of friends that just is not practical, so good streams ended up being for big communities, not for a few people on a Friday night.

So I built my own: somewhere small groups can have the quality they want, without a subscription for every person in the room.

Who runs it

Transmit is run by Transmit. I am one person, and I am a security engineer by trade. You can reach me at help@transmit.chat.

Built to be secure

Security is not an afterthought here; secure by design is the mission. I am making every effort to build it securely, and the service is monitored, including for vulnerabilities. Things that could hurt people, like removing an account or acting on a report, need me to sign them off with my passkey, and everything I do is recorded.

Built to follow the rules

Transmit is not built to dodge the law. It will follow the data protection (GDPR) and child safety laws that apply, using the least invasive and best-sourced ways of checking age that are available, and asking for no more than it needs. If a better, less intrusive way appears, I will move to it.

How it is paid for

It is not built to make a big profit. I am a one-person operation and I cannot cover everyone's server costs out of my own pocket. Any charges will be for extras that genuinely cost more to run, such as the servers that carry the extra bandwidth for higher-quality streams, and storage for attachments. There are no adverts, and your data is never sold.
